You know what I'm thankful for this holiday season?
She is, in a word, Badass. Let it be said here that though I'm not overly familiar with her as an artist, I have heard her more popular stuff (of course). I had learned that she put out a new single a couple of weeks ago, but I hadn't bothered to listen to it until last week, when I gave her video a listen. A couple of days later I saw the SNL skit (hilarious on several levels, but that's another post), but not her actual SNL performance. And the final piece of the trifecta of performances, (and the time the song really affected me), the other morning I watched a video of her performing 'Hello' and the NRJ Awards show.
That performance stunned me. I found myself thanking The Universe and the Powers That Be for her existence, it was so beautiful. After listening/watching that, I thought about her, and what a remarkable woman she is.
What I love about her:
Her Music: the lyrics, and the way she sings—belting out in aggressive passion, to gentle angelic grace.
Her Look: Adele is a strikingly beautiful woman. In her past, she has been judged as a 'bigger' woman, and even though she appears to have quite a bit of weight (while also being a drop-dead stunner), she's probably still thought of as being this. While I think beauty comes in all colors and sizes, unfortunately, in the Western World, the Public Eye Template that is used to measure beauty has historically been excruciatingly narrow. In writing about this, I looked up some of her personal quotes, and she's always made it clear that she doesn't care about fitting into any physical mold that celebrity or others may dictate. She's a wonderful example of the True Beauty of All Women, and in no small part due to her...
Personality: As I said before, even though I feel that I'm not very familiar with her, I managed to pick up the following infos about her, which I love: she stuck her finger up at critics/the crowd after a performance (I had to look up why—it's because her award speech was interrupted due to time constrictions); she is saucy and sassy with a brassily awesome laugh. She also recently did a practical joke as part of the Graham Norton show in England (she pretended to be her own impersonator at a public tryout, and it was fabulous).
And, I finally watched the SNL performance from an uploaded video that someone took—that face she makes at the end of it is Awesome!! So naturally goofy.
Rock On, Adele, you Beautiful Bodacious Badass!
